Trying to cope with her difficult past, Amanda's life is disrupted when the remains of her long-lost mother arrive from Korea. She is now haunted by memories of her childhood and the fear that she may eventually become like her mother. Umma showcases the issues between abused children and their abusive parents, highlighting how these children live in fear of making similar mistakes as their parents did. Sandra Oh and Fivel Stewart both deliver powerful performances, with Oh bringing depth to Amanda's character.
